About the Artist

Much of my work focuses on the natural metamorphosis brought on by the passage of time. My inspirations are the spatial and physical changes as determined by the paths taken in life, be they actual or illusionary.

Printmaking has always been a meditative process for me. The precision of the technical requirements are a foil to the subject matter that I have chosen; rocks spiraling out of control, vegetation distorted to the point of abstraction, paths magnified to appear like textured fields. I have applied this same process when working with a camera for my photo etchings.

It is my hope to take viewers out of their comfort zones by portraying familiar objects or places abstracted to the point of requiring subjective reinterpretation.

Susan Kaufmann was born in Montreal, Canada and currently lives in New York City working as a printmaker and painter.
